The NCCG provides specialist care for grieving children and their families to support them through the ongoing process of grief and enhance their opportunity to live a full and meaningful life.

The centre is a safe, nurturing and understanding environment for children and their families where they are encouraged to share their experiences.

The NCCG has developed and uses an internationally recognised therapeutic model and applies this in ways that meet the individual needs of each child.

Core Services

Individual Counselling

CHILD COUNSELLING

Specialist counselling for bereaved children aged 3-17 years

Includes individual play and talk-based therapy sessions of up to 2 hours (followed by a parent/carer debrief)

Unlimited, free service following a one-time initial assessment session with primary caregiver ($190 + GST)

In person, virtual or phone based depending on client need

(Note: Please contact us for referrals from NDIS programs, agencies and other health services)

ADULT COUNSELLING

Specialist counselling for newly bereaved adults (i.e. in the past 2-3 years)

Sessions of up to 2 hours duration

$190 (+GST) per session

Group Counselling

KIDS GROUPS

Ongoing support groups for school age children, available after individual counselling

All children are seen individually at first, and, if appropriate, may be offered the opportunity to participate in a support group

PARENT & CAREGIVER GROUPS

These take place while children are attending their support group. They are focused on learning to live with – and be a supportive caregiver to – a bereaved child, whilst also dealing with one’s own suffering

A range of support services are available to children, families and organisations who cannot attend the NCCG’s care centre in person at Hornsby, Sydney:

Peter Coupland Adventure Program

Names in honour of one of the Centre’s beloved counsellors

ADVENTURE CAMPS

These weekends include a combination of different adventure experiences, group activities and discussion, to help children connect and create community with other children. The Centre runs one Girls’ and one Boy’s adventure weekend each year.

A recent adjunct to our regular counselling programs, the annual Family Camp offers an opportunity for bereaved families to come together and explore grief as a family, and with other families who share a similar experience

The Peter Coupland Adventure Program

Our Peter Coupland Adventure Program is another important and special complement to our regular counselling programs.

Currently, we run one girls, and one boys adventure weekend each year, where bereaved children can meet other children who understand what they are going through. Through a combination of different adventure experiences, group activities and discussion, having fun and relaxing together, the children find these weekends help them feel less alone and more able to live with their grief.

A DYNAMIC MEMORIAL

Peter Coupland was a valued and dearly loved counsellor, friend, colleague and Board Member of the NCCG over a period of 15 years until his untimely death at the age of 49 from leukaemia, in May 2015.

Physically strong and emotionally courageous, Peter was an adventurer. He was known for his inspirational work and influence in the area of bereavement.

Introducing Adventure Weekends, as part of the Centre’s overall program for young people, Peter’s hope was that every child who took part would be encouraged to confront their fears and build resilience.

Himself a bereaved child, Peter was a great role model, demonstrating how to be engaged in life, despite living with the pain of early loss.

When deciding on a suitable memorial to honour Peter’s contribution to the Centre and to life, the words ‘dynamic, fun, wholesome, challenging, stimulating, safe, sensitive, a true friend, inspiring and thoughtful’ came to mind.
