A Friend’s Place provides specialist counselling and care services to support bereaved children and adults with their grief. We provide a place of safety and understanding, where bereaved people can learn about their grief and build their resilience and coping skills to help them live their own best life.
Services for children and families

Step 2. Complete the registration form by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.
Step 3. All new child and family clients begin with an Assessment session for a parent or caregiver with one of our counsellors. Once we receive your registration form, we will call you to book in the Assessment which can be conducted in person or over the phone and can take up to 2 hours. This session helps us understand your family’s personal circumstances and how the NCCG may best be able to support you. Assessment sessions require a payment of $190.00 (this cost is not covered by Medicare).
Step 4. Your child/children will be allocated a counsellor and we will call to offer an appointment time for each child. Child appointments have a duration of up to 1.5 hours. All services for children 3-17 years are provided free of charge, the cost of which are fully funded by community donations from generous supporters of A Friend’s Place.
Step 5. Children attend their counselling session either in person or online (if a child is able to communicate appropriately online). A parent/carer must be present for the duration of their child’s appointment. Counsellors will check in with you at the beginning of each session.
Step 6. Parents/carers can access adult counselling on a fee for service basis at $190 per 2-hour session.
Services for independent adults
Bereaved independent adults are also welcome at A Friend’s Place. Our team includes staff who specialise in bereavement care for adults. Bereaved adults can access unlimited individual counselling sessions with our specialist team on a fee for service basis at $190 per 2-hour session. The cost of an adult counselling sessions are partly funded by community donations, the fee charged reflects the remaining amount. Our services are not covered by Medicare. Sessions can be conducted in person at our centre in Hornsby or online.

Wait times can vary depending on need but we aim to schedule an Assessment within 4 weeks of receiving a registration. Our Clinical Director oversees all registrations and allocates counsellors to each adult and child.
